At the end of the school year I had the privilege of going on two field trips with the sixth grade students. For the first field trip, the sixth grade teachers organized a Middle Ages madrigal - complete with costumes and roles. I was a lady-in-waiting.
Guess what... On three occasions, parents at the madrigal questioned whether I was a sixth grade student or a teacher. Really? I look half my age?
This is what I looked like when I graduated from eighth grade.
I tend to think I look a little older nowadays...
It's not that it really bothered me as much as it was a hassle to deal with. Needless to say, the next day when we went to a local museum for the day, I was sure to don my school name badge. I was hoping that it would project, "Yes, I am in fact the one in charge of these 14 12-year-olds."
It seemed to work. No confusions.

I'm not quite sure how that happened, because 12 just isn't in the running, there. I might be able to see you as being 17-18 in that picture (if I tried really hard)... but not 12.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the comment above. 12-year-olds look older these days, but not quite that much. You're a young looking 24, which (I know!) can be annoying now, but you'll appreciate it when you're nearing 40:o)
ReplyDeleteHah! As people always tell me after I relate similar stories, "you'll appreciate it when you're older." :)
ReplyDeleteYeah. I do think I look young - especially in that picture. I'm sure there would be even more confusion if I worked at the high school instead! I definitely still get the whole, "So, are you in college then?" when I meet people.
ReplyDeleteHAHA Oh Jenni this made me laugh. You are the hottest 12 year old ever! I miss you. This is really Erin by the way.
